Laura Oliff, PhD
I am a licensed psychologist in NY, NJ and have recently been authorized to practice teletherapy in 38 states across the U.S. I offer a unique combination of Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) and Psychodynamic therapies in my practice. Blending these approaches allows clients to focus on present-day issues without minimizing the fullness and complexity of their individual histories. My goal is to help you alleviate your symptoms and lessen your daily struggle so you can create a more meaningful and satisfying life. You have the capacity for change.... let me help you discover what that looks like for you.
I have expertise in the evidence-based treatment of a broad range of anxiety and mood disorders including worry, obsessive- compulsive disorder, panic attacks, depression, dysphoria and bipolar disorder. Other areas of specialization include relationship enhancement both personally and professionally, coping with grief and loss, decision making, communication skills training, conflict resolution and problem-solving strategies. Managing life transitions such as divorce, dating in mid-life, or planning for what comes next in retirement are also areas of interest.
After receiving my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the New School for Social Research, I trained in CBT with Robert Leahy, PhD and then practiced as a senior psychologist, and Associate Director of the American Institute for Cognitive Therapy in NYC for 30 years before starting my own private practice in Manhattan. I was responsible for supervising numerous doctoral and post-doctoral candidates over the years and I am also a Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.
